1. Seaside Promenade
One of the most popular and spectacular places in Pondicherry where you can soak the sunlight while sipping on some beer/ wine is the seaside promenade/ Goubert Avenue/Beach Road. Visit this place during the time of sunrise and sunset to witness the natural beauty. You can go on a walk with your loved one or can enjoy drinks and ice creams. At the end of the promenade, you will find the wonderful statue of Mahatma Gandhi. This road remains traffic-free from 6 pm to 7.30 pm. If you are looking for night fun you can visit some of the great restaurants around the Promenade.
Auroville is just 14 kilometers from Puducherry and this township is created by the followers of Shri Aurobindo. When you are on your just 2 day trip to Puducherry do visit Auroville as the beauty here is a sight to behold. It is said that the township is resided by around 2,500 people hailing from 40+ countries.
The Matrimandir or the Mother’s Temple is a beautiful temple here which is in a gold plated spherically shaped. Visiting the visitor’s Centre in Auroville will give you knowledge about this place’s history and Shri Aurobindo’s life and philosophy. At the shopping center, you can shop for handmade souvenirs, clothes and other knick-knacks by the residents.

3. Paradise beach
When in Pondy how can you not visit the beautiful beaches. One such beach you must-visit is the Paradise beach which is an isolated one because to reach here you have to take a 30-minute ferry from Chunnambar Boat House. In a boat ride, you will go through a mangrove. The Paradise beach is beautiful and the few shacks here will make your visit awesome. Well, the entry fee is Rs 150 and the boat ride will cost you Rs 75 per person. With your family, loved one or friends you can easily spend here 3-4 hours.
4. Serenity Beach
Another beach you must visit while your two-day trip is Serenity Beach. This one has golden sands and a peaceful atmosphere will make you feel relaxed. Well, if you are an adventure lover then this beach offers many activities like surfing, kayaking, canoeing will keep you entertained. The morning or an evening walk will give you serene vibes for sure. Also, there is a flea market by the beach so you can shop if you want. This beach is located 7 kilometers from Pondicherry.
5. French Quarter
The French Quarter should be a part of your Pondicherry 2 day trip. The place has beautiful French-styled villas and lovely paved roads which will make your visit delightful. As it was inhabited by the colonial French, this place is one of the posher parts of town. From the outlets present over here you can shop stuff such as leather goods, handmade paper, etc. You can explore the town through a walking tour or a heritage tour. 6. Manakula Vinayagar Temple
Blessings are also important during the journey. So, do pay a visit to the Manakula Vinayagar temple. The Ganesha temple is covered in gold and is facing the Bay of Bengal and the idol is placed along with Buddhi and Siddhi. The temple name origin is from Manal meaning sand and kulam meaning pond. At the time of the Ganesh Chaturthi, the temple celebrates its annual festival.
7. Sri Aurobindo Ashram
If you don’t know who is Shri Aurobindo, then let me tell you he was a philosopher, poet, yogi, and nationalist who chose Puducherry as his place of retirement in the year 1910. The ashram now is a museum where one gets to know about the history and teachings of Sri Aurobindo. Here you can attend prayer meetings and meditation sessions to give relaxation to your mind. Do visit this place in Pondicherry if you are hunting for some peace. The entry fee is Rs 50 per person.
8. Pondicherry Museum
The Museum located in Bharathi Park is just 3 km away from Pondicherry Bus Station which is popular for a unique collection of sculptures. It has a gallery with sculptures and archaeological findings from the Arikamedu Roman settlement. The gallery has artifacts belonging to Cholas and Pallavas rule of Pondicherry and Karaikal. You will find other things preserved in the Museum from different period. In the painting section, you will see Tanjore and glass paintings, colonial prints and contemporary oils, pastels and watercolors.
Also, it has bronze statues of several gods and goddesses along with handicrafts, artwork and temple lamps. You will also get to see here the collection of snail shells collected from the beaches near Pondicherry. The entry fee for the museum is Rs. 15 per person and it remains closed on Mondays and National holidays.
9. Chunnambar Boat House
Chunnambar Boat House/ Plage Paradiso is located 6 km away from Pondicherry Bus Station. The boathouse is known for its exotic boating venue and blackwater. Situated on the Cuddalore main road, the backwater is a point where the Chunnambar River meets the Bay of Bengal. You can reach Paradise beach from Chunnambar Boat House. The resort called Chunnambar Beach and Backwater Resort is managed by the Pondicherry Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (PTTDC).
The resort provdes many facilities to their visitors like trekking, yachting, backwater boat trips, and beach games. You will find here many boating options like motorboats, speed boats, sailboats, rowed boats, water scooters, paddled boats and pedaled boats. You can choose to stay in the treetop houses. The boating fee here are Boating Fee: Motor Boat – Rs. 50 to Rs. 100, Speed Boat: Rs. 125 (2 persons) to Rs 350 (6 persons), and Jet Ski: Rs. 250 to Rs. 500.
10. Basilica Of Sacred Heart Of Jesus
One of the religious places in Pondicherry is situated 2.5 km from Pondicherry Bus Station. The Church of Sacred Heart of Jesus is situated on the south boulevard of the town. Out of 21 Basilicas in India and this is the only one in Pondicherry. Established in 1908 by the French missionaries and it achieved the status of basilica in the year 2011.
The structure at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is 50 meters long, 48 meters wide and 18 meters high and is held by 24 columns. The statue of Madonna is placed on the right side of the high altar. At a grand level, the Church celebrates the Easter Day, New Year and the eve of Christmas. The timings of the church are from 7 AM to 6.30 PM.
